چکیده

Even at weak to intermediate coupling, the Hubbard model poses a formidable challenge. In two dimensions in particular, standard methods such as the Random Phase Approximation are no longer valid since they predict a finite temperature antiferromagnetic phase transition prohibited by the Mermin-Wagner theorem. The Two-Particle-Self-Consistent (TPSC) approach satisfies that theorem as well as particle conservation, the Pauli principle, the local moment and local charge sum rules. The self-energy formula does not assume a Migdal theorem. There is consistency between oneand two-particle quantities. Internal accuracy checks allow one to test the limits of validity of TPSC. Here I present a pedagogical review of TPSC along with a short summary of existing results and two case studies: a) the opening of a pseudogap in two dimensions when the correlation length is larger than the thermal de Broglie wavelength, and b) the conditions for the appearance of d-wave superconductivity in the two-dimensional Hubbard model. 1.

Strongly Correlated Electrons: Dynamical Vertex Renormalization

Single-band Hubbard model at criticality of the metal-insulator transition is studied using approximations derived from parquet theory. It is argued that only the electron-hole and interaction two-particle channels in the parquet algebra are relevant. A scheme is proposed how to reduce the parquet equations to a manageable form the complexity of which is comparable with single-channel approxima...

Conserving Approximations vs. Two-Particle Self-Consistent Approach

The conserving approximation scheme to many-body problems was developed by Kadanoff and Baym using the functional-derivative approach. Another approach for the Hubbard model also satisfies conservation laws, but in addition it satisfies the Pauli principle and a number of sum rules. A concise formal derivation of that approach, using functional derivatives, is given in this conference paper to ...

A NUMERICAL RENORMALIZATION GROUP APPROACH FOR AN ELECTRON-PHONON INTERACTION

A finite chain calculation in terms of Hubbard X-operators is explored by setting up a vibronic Harniltonian. The model conveniently transformed into a form so that in the case of strong coupling a numerical renormalization group approach is applicable. To test the technique, a one particle Green function is calculated for the model Harniltonian

A Self-Consistent Technique for the Construction and Evaluation of the Three-Parameter Corresponding States Principles

A self-consistent approach for the evaluation of the existing three-parameter corresponding states principles of non-polar fluids and the calculation of the corresponding states parameters is presented. This self consistent approach is based upon the assumption that the contribution of the third parameter to the thermophysical properties is much smaller than the contributions of the first two p...

A new class of collective excitations of the Hubbard model I : η excitation of the negative – U model

In this series of papers we present a detailed study of the particle–particle collective excitations of the Hubbard model, and their contribution to the density and spin excitation spectrum. In the first paper, we shall investigate the singlet particle–particle pair with momentum (π, π), the η particle, of the negative–U Hubbard model. We review three previously obtained theorems about the η pa...
